POLITICAL DISCRIMINATION IN PUERTO RICANS WOMEN

In October the University had a debate with the candidates of legislative in Puerto Rico; Norma Burgos, that’s was representing the PNP, Maria Ortolaza, that represent the PPD, and Maria de Lourdes Santiago, that came representing the PIP, one of the questions of the debate was: Do you think that in Puerto Rico, the women don’t have a great role in the politics? When the candidates have the turn of answer the first was Norma Burgos, she said that the women have a role, but she concentrated in their party (partido), when Maria Ortolaza was talking she said almost the same thing of Norma Burgos and she concentrated in their party too.  But when Maria de Lourdes have their turn she said that in general the women in Puerto Rico, in spite of the laws that prohibit the political discrimination some women feel that exist political discrimination in the parties, because the women always is the minority in the parties of Puerto Rico.  That answer put me to think and I investigate a little of that kinds of acts that put the women like a piece of something in that society.  In spite of all laws that have in the country against political discrimination in women can be exists discrimination in political parties of Puerto Rico.

In the history was a moment that was glorious in women, and that was the moment that occurs the suffrages, that laws allows the women the right of the vote in their countries.  In Puerto Rico, if we saw the history the time when women have the suffrages was a little late approximately in 1970, but the Puerto Rican women never stop and little by little fought for their rights.  For that reason in Puerto Rico was created the office of Women Attorney, that office watches that everyone respect the rights of women.  But why in spite of the laws that forbid the discrimination in women, the women that work in the politics they feel like they have discrimination or minority by part of the men that work in the politics? Well maybe have some reasons that the women is minority in political parties, the first can be that can be in part “machistas” and don’t think that the women have the capacity to work with the country because the men’s have prejudice that the women is weak person, that they don’t have strong decision in a political way, etc.  But the truth is that the women that work in the politics, are doing a best work that the men go.  I know that in Puerto Rico have a lot of cases of political discrimination in women, but is so fewer the cases that the television and other types of communications open to the public.  But we know that have a lot of women that are fighting for the rights that belong to us, and thanks that this efforts that are a big factors that established a women advance status in the political career.

We saw in that essay how the men can do discrimination in the women in the politics, so we saw to how the misogyny and discriminations exist because the education that some families give to her Childs, because I know that type of feelings to the women only is created by an society factor or by an envy.  I know that the women in spite of their fights and perseverance to dare with men especially in a hard work like is the politics, we have to do more to let people especially the men that work in the government that we can do a good job or better work that nobody has done yet.  So let keep up ahead in all work that we have to do in that society to in the end feels ourselves treat equal.

Kid’s gun

In the past semester in my Spanish class, to all of us the professor assigned a documental video calling “Bowling for Columbine” made by Michael Moore.  When I was watching the documental something that call a lot my attention was two events that occurs en two schools of United States, the first was the one that was calling the Columbine School Massacre, that two boys, that the age not pass to the 17, enter to their school of Columbine armed killing more than 5 kids and 1 teacher, untie a big chaos, the second of the events was a kid of only 6 years, he portage a gun and he killed a girl a partner of elemental school, when the police investigated the case, the reason that hi was handle the guns was that he find the gun in a house drawer, and he was with any adult supervision, because his mother almost never was in the house, because she work more than 12 hours per day, to gained money to pay the bills.  In reality of all events I think about one question: How that’s kids tuvieron access of that weapons? Why happened a lot of kids accidents provoked by fire weapons?  Educating the parents about the problem and risk than can cause to their kids handle a gun in their house can be an effective way to solve the problem of intentional injury and not accidental injury with the guns in our kids and younger people.

I   want to solve the problem because when I was investigate more about that topic I saw a lamentable notice that a 6 old kid that handle his father’s gun in the target practice, kill her mother accidentally, and that type of news I want to prevent.  I want to prevent that the minors handle a gun to prevent more accidents like the massacre of Columbia and the kids that kill a girl in her elementary school.

My plans to take action of that problem are:

Educating the parents about the problem and risk than can cause to their kids handle a gun.

The second one was gave more donatives to the can do more research about that problem

Is do flyers, announcements in radio, television, put billboard in the streets, with different messages like: “Stop the fire weapons in your home for a best future” or I can give the statistics, that said about the parents that have weapons in their house and the kids can causes accidents or killed somebody, like in Columbine School, the others statistics says that more than 800 kids under 14 years were treated in hospitals for unintentional fire arm injuries.  The other message would be “Don’t keep fire weapons, best don’t have” this is because nearly two thirds of firearm owning parents with school-age children believe they keep their firearm safely away from their children.  However, one study found that when a gun was in the home, 75 percent to 80 percent of first and second graders knew where it was kept.

In the documental was talking that in K-mart was selling gun supplies, and that supplies possible was the supplies that the Kids that do the Massacre of Columbine use for his weapons.  That is terrible because how can be possible that a family store can sell supplies for the guns? I can do a campaign and not only that I can do and investigate to other stores that sell supplies with any authorization and I do a demand to remove the supplies and guns in recognized stores.

  etc..

The materials that I can use to implement the proposal is especially the people because I thing that alone we don’t can do a revolution to stop the guns in our kids and if I have the support of the people we can do more and with less resources and money.  The other resources that I can need can be donatives to do the announcements in the radio, television, etc…

The time needed to implement the proposal I think that is indefinite because that is a problem that if the people don’t put there part like society this gone to fail.  We have to educate the parents specifically and then do others thing to conscience the people of the risk in kids to handle a gun.  I think the best thing to evaluate if the proposal is working or not is do polls to the people if they know about the campaign and the information of the campaign.  I think that this theme is old but nobody has launched a aggressive campaign to educated the parents and give more information about the problems and the risk of guns in our homes.
